One week and couting...

I leave for convention one week from today and I am so not ready! I thought with convention being later this year, I would have more time to make swaps and it would be less stressful. Somehow though I am in the same situation I always am in.

This card is for the SCS Christmas card swap. I'm in group one. The layout is from sketch challenge 77 on splitcoast. This is one of my favorite sketches!

I used the Christmas Tree from Big Celebrations again. The sentiment and the snowflakes on the so saffron strip are both from the new set Short & Sweet. This set is what I always wanted Warm Words to be -- real sentiments, not just random words.

I think these colors go so well together and give a classic Christmas look as opposed to my blogger's challenge card last week.

I added Silver Shine glitter to the tinsel and dazzling diamonds glitter to the star. So here's the question. Do you think I should have glittered the ornaments as well. I don't have the red glitter, so if I did it would be dazzling diamonds. Post here and let me know what you think!

Blogger's Challenge Friday #3

I joined the Blogger's Challenge group this week! Our challenge this week was to make a Christmas card using any stamps we wished but without using traditional Christmas colors. I thought I would be smart and combine this challenge with my hostess' make-n-take request of something "complicated". So I chose to try one of Cami's trifold cards.

I also wanted to use my new stamp set Big Celebrations. I know some people find these stamps creepy because the little people don't have faces, but I thing it's whimsical. I just love the idea of little elves decorating the Christmas tree.

So for the Blogger's Challenge, I chose to use Regal Rose and Certainly Celery as my main colors. I also used a little Sky Blue, So Saffron and Close to Cocoa to color in the tree.

Here's a picture of the inside half-way opened.

The little snowflakes are from the Snow Flurries stamp set and are stamped with Regal Rose ink on Regal Rose card stock. I love these little snow flakes so much and was so happy to see them in the big catalog this year!

I also cracked open my Many Merry Messages set that I never mounted last year. I thought the "Jolly surprises" stamp went really well with the Big Celebrations tree.


Finally, I used the Coluzzle to cut the oval opening in the front of the card.

As I mentioned before, my slit punch is busted. So I used the horizontal slot punch instead and threaded ribbon through the whole to tie the card shut.

Free Standing Pop-up Tutorial

I am not the creator of this fold. I found the directions on splitcoast stampers from Joelyn here. I just thought a step-by-step tutorial might be helpful to others.

Supplies:

Stamps (All in the Family, Family Accessories, It's Your Birthday)

4 1/2" x 11" card stock (for the base Tempting Turquoise)
2 1/2" x 5 1/4" card stock (for the pop-up message Groovy Guava & Whisper White)

Ink

Paper Scorer

Bone Folder

Sticky Strip

Step by Step:

Step 1:
Decorate the front of the 4 1/2" x 11" cardstock. Then, flip it over and score at the following marks:
1", 2 3/4", 3 3/4", 5 1/2", 7 1/4", 8 1/4", 10"







Step 2:
At the 5 1/2" mark, cut down the score line from 3/4" to 3 3/4". This creates a slit in the center that is 2 3/4" long.






Step 3:
Fold along the score lines to make assembly easier later.




Step 4:
Mask off the bottom 1" of the 2 1/2" by 5 1/4" card stock. This inch will be hidden, so you want to make sure your design doesn't go that far down. In my case, I wanted to make sure the little boy would stand above this line.








Step 5:
Decorate the pop-up message. As mentioned in step 4, most of the grass at the bottom will be hidden when assembled.









Step 6:
Apply sticky strip to the bottom of the pop-up message on the front and back.










Step 7:
Slip the top of the pop-up message through the slit in the base.










Step 8:
Remove the protective film off the Sticky Strip on one side of the pop-up message and adhere to the bottom flap on that side. Be careful to keep the pop-up part straight during this process.







Step 9:
Repeat step 8 for the back side of the message. Once again, keep the pop-up message straight.







Step 10:
Prop up your card, because you are done!

Birthday Boy

My best customers are having a workshop tonight and they wanted to do something complicated. So, I thought a Free Standing Pop-up card would do the trick. I got the instructions from Joelyn on splitcoast stampers. There are some great diagrams in that thread to help explain how it all comes together.

However, I couldn't find a step-by-step tutorial anywhere, so look for one here in the next day or so!

On to this sample, I just love the new All in the Family stamp set from Stampin' Up! I think it is so cool that you can make cards that actually look like the recipient. For this card, I stamped everything in Jet Black Stazon and then colored with either markers or a blender pen and ink pads. I don't like using the blush blossom marker directly because I feel it gives too dark of a color. So, for his little face I used a blender pen and the blush blossom ink pad. I also used groovy guava for his shirt and one of the balloons, so that had to be done with a blender pen as well.

The grass at the bottom is from the striped stamp in the Background Sampler set stamped in wild wasabi.

I tried mounting All in the Family in the corners of the blocks so I wouldn't have to use a stamp-a-majig for each piece. Wouldn't you know that I hate it! The blocks feel off-balance and wobbly. I ended up using my stamp-a-majig anyway. So, after my workshop I will be remounting this set to center everything!

I can't wait to use this set again. It was too much fun!

Glitter Paper Revisited

The last thing I wanted to show at Lisa's meeting was my glitter paper technique. It's not often that I have an original idea (one that didn't originate on splitcoast), so I'm pretty proud of this one.

This card might look familiar, because it is very similar to this one that I did with Roses in Winter. Once again, the original layout was from Cindy Lyles' Butterfly Kisses card.

This time, I used Loads of Love to make a Christmas card. I stamped the little truck on whisper white card stock in Timber Brown Stazon ink so it wouldn't smear. Then I used an aquapainter and my ink pads to color the truck in. I used rose red for the truck, basic black markers for the tires, going gray for the bumper and hubcaps, so saffron for her hair and the headlights, bordering blue for the windshield and garden green for her shirt. The I masked the truck bed and stamped the tree. To ink the tree, I used a chocolate chip and a garden green marker to color the trunk and needles. When all was done, I added Dazzling Diamonds glitter to the headlight, hubcaps, bumper, tree and the driver's hair. The rest of the card was going to sparkle, so I didn't want her to feel left out!

For the so saffron strip, I used my two-way glue pen to go over some of the lines. Then I sprinkled on some more Dazzling Diamonds. I've found that you shouldn't do every line or else it will look really bad. Instead, randomly alternate between thick lines and thin lines. I also added glitter to all the polka dots on the rose red tab in the same manner. Finally, I used a mini glue dot to adhere the Wild Wasabi Stitched Ribbon knot to the tab. I just couldn't resist!

Last night I mounted most of my new stamp sets, so new samples should be popping up soon!

1. I was an only child until my dad remarried my freshman year of college. Now I have an older step-brother and step-sister.
2. I got married 1 month after graduating from college and then started my first "real" job 2 weeks after that.
3. I also love to knit, although I only learned how to one year ago. So far I've knit scarves, hats, sweaters and I'm working on a blanket.
4. I am an Air Force BRAT. My dad retired when I was in the 8th grade.
5. I was born in Germany and lived there for 8 years in two separate tours.
6. I have a 1.5 year old puggle named Lucy. She is too stinkin' cute!
7. I am a software engineer which is a glorified name for computer programmer. So stamping is my creative outlet for sure!!

Slit Flower Frame

Last month, Leigh O'Brien shared the tutorial to the slit flower frame with the SSUS group. At the time I was too busy to try it out, but I thought it would be a great technique to demonstrate at Lisa's downline meeting last night.

So, here's my first attempt. The card base is close to cocoa. I cut an oval out of my wild wasabi card stock using the oval coluzzle template. (It was the 5th oval from the center.) Then I inserted my slit punch in the middle of the oval to punch all the way around creating the petals. Using a sponge dauber, I applied some garden green ink to each petal to make them stand out more. Then I stamped wild about you all over the front.

The alligator was stamped with garden green since I didn't have my wild wasabi ink pad yet. I did stamp off once to tone him down a little. Then the little bird was added in groovy guava ink.

Be really careful where you put your adhesive when gluing the white card stock to the green card stock. On my first try, a couple of my petals ended up glued down. After fixing that little mishap, I popped up the green & white layer with dimensionals on the close to cocoa card base.

I think this came out pretty cute. The alligator and the birdie make a cute couple and this technique really frames them in.

The one thing I will change for next time is my slit punch. When I first got it as a brand new stamper, I tried punching through 3 layers of card stock and my poor punch has never been the same. It gets stuck very easily and not the kind of stuck that can be fixed with punching through wax paper. I think there's a broken spring or something inside the lever. Anyway, if you look closely to the bottom left of the oval, you'll see where my slit punch tried to chew up the card stock. I can take a hint. I'll be putting a new slit punch on my next order. ;)

New Catalog Stuff!!

My expedited order came a day early and it was perfect timing! Why you ask? Because I was scheduled to demonstrate a few cards at Lisa Gentile's downline meeting tonight! Lisa is my sideline and she is a fabulous stamper, demonstrator & person so I was more than thrilled when she asked me to come to her group meeting tonight.

Okay, on to the cards! The first one was a simple monogrammed card. When finishing this card, I realized that all of my smaller alphabet stamps are retired. You could use any alphabet stamp from pages 158-160 for this.

Enough about the old, what's new on this card? Taffeta ribbon for one. This is the Chocolate Taffeta and I think it is divine - a little shiny and very smooth. It also cuts much more nicely than the retired organdy ribbon that would always fray a little.

Also, that scalloped circle is the new Scallop circle punch. The 'l' was punched with the 1 3/8" circle punch and it is a perfect fit! I can't wait to find more images to stick inside this frame.

Finally, I used the old corner rounder punch to make the scalloped border at the bottom. I then traced the scallop with my two-way glue pen and sprinkled some Dazzling Diamonds on top. All in all, I think this is a very simple, yet elegant card.

Wedding Time!

The day has finally arrived! My college roommate is getting married tomorrow. She started dating her fiance right before we graduated 7 years ago! I am so very happy for them both.

On to the card... I absolutely loved Cindy's (starlitstudio) sposabella card that she posted way back in January. I think it is the epitome of elegance! I just had to CASE Cindy's layout for this card.

I first stamped hitchedafellabella with Palette Noir ink onto a scrap piece of a Fabriano Medioevalis card. Then I colored them in with my watercolor wonder crayons and an aquapainter. This is by far my favorite method of coloring the bellas! I couldn't leave well enough alone at that point, so I added a little sparkle to bella's tiara and waist band and fella's bow tie with a Sakura Stardust clear gelly roll pen. Then I added some shine to the roses with a Sakura clear gelly roll pen. Finally I used a black glaze pen on fella's shoes and the white souffle pen for their smiles. I then layered the happy couple onto a piece of brushed silver card stock.

The rest of the card came together in a snap! The card base is some sort of Bazzill white card stock that I bought years ago. It has a nice linen texture. On a side note, I'm so excited that Stampin' Up! will be carrying textured cardstock in the new catalog.

Anyway, I sent a smaller piece of whisper white cardstock through my cuttlebug using the d'vine swirl embossing folder. A piece of white organdy ribbon and silver cord finished the card perfectly!

36 SWAPS!

Done! I always jump on the Control Freak swaps as soon as Lisa sends out the email. I usually don't procrastinate to the very last minute to get them done though.

My hubby had to help me assemble these last night, but we finished just in time to get them out in the mail today! I can't wait to see what everyone else has come up with.

Alright, now for the details! I just love this cute little elephant from the new stamp set Year After Year. This set will be available in the new Fall & Winter Collection starting July 1.

I also used two of the new In Colors -- Soft Sky and Groovy Guava. The circles were cut out with the Coluzzle and the scalloped border was made with the small corner rounder. Beate has a great tutorial on this technique here. I like this scalloped border better than the one that can be created with the slit punch. It's a little softer.

Once again, I used sketch challenge 68 on a shade of blue.

Forgotten Treasure

This week's SSUS card challenge was to use a forgotten treasure embellishment like buttons or magic mesh. I can never figure out how to use buttons, so I pulled out the magic mesh. And what better set to pair with magic mesh than Crab & Company? I always think of nautical type images with magic mesh. Maybe it just reminds me of fish nets.

Anyway, I cut out the yellow circles with my coluzzle and then applied the magic mesh. Because the magic mesh is self-adhesive, if you pour glitter on top then it will stick. Pretty cool, isn't it?

After I stamped the crab & packages, I masked off the packages and overstamped with the speckled stamp from Itty Bitty Backgrounds to make the sand match. I also masked off the eyes on the crab before stamping his party hat. I think it's worth the extra work to mask as opposed to sticking the hat above his eyes.

Mother of Pearl

Last week, I signed up for the Unique Background card challenge in the SSUS group. This is what I came up with. I have been meaning to try the Faux Mother of Pearl technique forever so this was the perfect opportunity. Beate's tutorial makes it super easy!

I loved the way blush blossom looked on Beate's sample, so I decided to do the same. Once again, I pulled out Buggies & Booties for a more vintage feel. The color coach suggested Close to Cocoa with Blush Blossom.

I am such a lucky girl and I'm so sorry that I'm late in posting these.

The second card was a bit more mysterious. The return address is from S. Atterbury, but I don't know her SCS name or her blog address. I did check the RAK list on splitcoast, but I didn't see your name there. If this is your card, please let me know so I can give you proper credit!

I love the brayered Au Chocolat paper on the bottom. I hope this paper makes it to the new catalog because it is so versatile.

Bridal Shower Favors

As promised, here are the party favors from my friend Adrienne's bridal shower. Adrienne has always been into gardening, so when I saw this idea during a google search for bridal shower favors, I thought, "I can make that!" And if I do say so myself, mine came out better!

I used small Terracotta pots from Home Depot that cost about 54 cents each. Then my husband spray painted the outsides of them white for me. I then painted the rims a celery green color with a foam brush and some acrylic paint from Michaels. After another google search for painting pots, I found this site which recommended sealing the inside of the pots with polyurethane. So, my husband did 3 coats for me with a water-based polyurethane I picked up at Michaels. As a final touch, he gave the outsides a spray with Patricia Nimrock's Matte Sealant to make them easier to keep clean. This process took a couple of days, but it was totally worth it. The pots are super cute and more durable than the little plastic ones that my inspiration included.

Once the pots were completely dry, I tied a ribbon around each one. This ribbon is Martha Stewart's brick-coffee bean piped ribbon that is now available at Michaels. I used exactly 1 roll for the 12 pots that I made. I was going to use Stampin' Up's wine narrow organdy ribbon, but I didn't have enough on hand and I cut this project a little close to the deadline. ;)

The seed packets were made with whisper white card stock. I made a template in Word that had all the text on it (the back of the packet has planting instructions). Then I cut them out, folded them up & stamped the blooming heart from Simply Said on the front. Isn't it just perfect for the "love is blooming" sentiment? I colored it in with Ruby Red, Pumpkin Pie & Certainly Celery markers.

I slipped a mini-ziplock bag in each packet filled with Love in a Mist seeds that I ordered from cheapseeds.com.

I promise to post a tutorial on the seed packets later. This post is certainly long enough!

I'll leave you with a picture from the shower showing the pots in their natural habitat. In the background you can see the plate full of yummy Italian Almond Cookies that were made by the mother of the bride.

Bling Baby!

My college roommate is getting married next month, so on Saturday I trekked up to Albany for her bridal shower.

This was the card that I made for her. The stamp is blingabella from Stamping Bella. I thought she was so cute with her sparkly giant diamond ring! My bella's ring is sparkling from a little touch of my Sakura Stardust Pen.

The card base is the new Stamper's Select White Card Set from Paper Trey Ink. When I read about this heavier white card stock on Nichole's blog, I had to order it to try it out! It is not quite as smooth as Stampin' Up!'s Whisper White, but it is much thicker. So it is perfect for white card bases. I haven't actually stamped on it yet, but so far I'm loving it's sturdiness. :)

The patterned paper is once again from the Old World Mat pack from Die Cuts with a View.

The layout is modified from Valerie Strangle. She has some great go-to layouts!

Cape Cod Swap

SSUS Cape Cod folks, don't peak if you want to be surprised! This is my 6x6 2 page spread for our Cape Cod memories swap. The rules were, 2 pages with at least one picture of you (either from that weekend or another recent picture.)

Let me start by saying that I love the idea of scrapbooking and I love the end result. I can spend over an hour in a scrapbooking store browsing the paper & stickers and spending my fair share of money. But, when it comes to actually scrapbooking? I totally freeze up. I think the idea that it is permanent -- a keepsake -- just adds too much pressure! I agonize over every color choice and every layout decision. Cropping my pictures is one of the most stressful things about it! It can literally take me over an hour to do one 6x6 page without the journaling!

This is something I need to work on, so I thought this swap from our Cape Cod weekend would be the perfect opportunity! I started with two 8x8 layouts from page maps and then scaled them down to 6x6 size. This proved a little harder than I thought it would, but I think it worked out.
The oval frame is from the largest size from the Bookplates Sizzix die. First, I cut it out of a thin white coaster and then I cut the same frame out of Cool Caribbean card stock and glued it on the chipboard one. I found the card stock frame was a little too flimsy when working with the ribbon. The chipboard made it much sturdier!

The journaling font is the Passing Notes font from one of the Stampin' Up! font cds.

I'm the one on the right in the tilted picture. The lovely lady to my right is Lisa Sommerville. That picture was taken at our A Muse card class at Colorful Creations. I'm also in the picture directly above it, but I refuse to tell you which one is me. Butt shots are not the most flattering. ;)

Mother's Day

Mother's Day is one of the hardest days of the year for me. My mom died when I was 16 years old and my grandmother died this past December. Since I have no children of my own, the day just reminds me of what I have lost. When I start to feel down, I force myself to remember what I have gained in the past 12 years since my mother died -- a wonderful step-mother and mother-in-law that are very loving and supportive. They could never replace my mom, but I am blessed to have them in my life.

This card is for my step-mother for Mother's Day. I always struggle with the sentiment for her card. I don't call her mom or mother, so statements like "to my mom" are out. I usually just stamp "Happy Mother's Day" inside, but this year I decided to be a little more creative. The sentiment stamp is from the You Are set by Anna Griffin. On the inside, it says "very special to me".

The flowers are the Bella's Garden stamp from Stamping Bella. Tulips and daisies are my favorite flowers, so this stamp was a no-brainer for me to add on to my last order. I stamped the flowers on a scrap piece of a Fabriano Medioevalis note card with Palette Noir Black ink. Then I watercolored with my Watercolor Wonder Crayons and an Aquapainter. I drew the line in with a Stampin' Journaler to ground the pots.

The patterned paper is from the Old World Mat pack from Die Cuts with a View which I recently picked up for 50% off at my local Joann's. The coolest part about this paper is that it is textured like Bazzill card stock. The card base is So Saffron stamped with the Paisley background stamp in So Saffron ink. I thought it gave just enough texture to complement the patterned paper I chose.

Glitter Kick

So I seem to be on a glitter kick. What can I say? Glittering this patterned paper is so much fun! I will warn you though, there is such a thing as too much. On my first attempt, I glittered every single swirl on the Rose Red version of this pattern and it looks horrible. I will spare you the details on that one.

Learning from that mistake, I selectively glittered some of the swirls on this Almost Amethyst piece. Then I glittered every other line on the celery piece.

Fairy-Tale Wedding is sadly retiring this year. I bought this set because I loved the sentiments "happily ever after" and "once upon a time" that come in it. Unfortunately I forgot to leave room on this card for one of them. Too much glitter!!

The layout for this card came from sketch challenge 68 on a shade of blue. I just discovered the sketches on this site and I am super excited. Now I have even more options when I get stamper's block.

Another Purse

This was one of the make-n-takes at my workshop tonight. My hostess, Lisa, wanted to learn how to make Julie Ebersole's purse cards. The template is available on splitcoast, but you need to be a Stampin' Up! demonstrator to access it. If you aren't a demonstrator, ask your demonstrator to show you how to make it.

This time, I stamped the paisley stamp from Polka Dots & Petals from the spring mini catalog in Chocolate Chip ink on Cool Caribbean card stock. Then, I highlighted the paisleys with my Signo White Gel Pen.

For the flap, I brayered Cool Caribbean ink over the Au Chocolat paper from the spring mini catalog. Linda Heller (LucyStamps on scs), first posted the idea of brayering over the Au Chocolate papers. It makes them so much more versatile!

Out with the Old

The Stampin' Up! retirement list was posted today and it's the longest one ever! I own 61 stamp sets that are retiring. Considering that 2/3 of the current catalog is on the list, that's not too bad...

At any rate, Roses in Winter is on the list and I will miss it. I don't use it very often, but it gives such an elegant look with so little effort. For this rose, I used the Rock 'n Roll technique. On the bottom layer, I first inked up with Cameo Coral ink and then rolled in Rose Red. I stamped off once before stamping on the card stock. Then for the second layer, I used the same colors but did not stamp off before stamping on the card stock. For the top layer, I only inked in Rose Red ink and stamped directly onto the rose. I then masked the rose before stamping the leaves which were inked in Certainly Celery ink and then rolled in Garden Green before stamping. It's hard to tell from the picture, but the rose is stamped on Shimmery White card stock to give the card just a little more sparkle.

The tab was stamped with "to my mom" from All Year Cheer III. On the inside, I stamped "Happy Mother's Day" from All Year Cheer II. All three of the all year cheers are retiring this year.

I'm super proud of my glittered patterned paper. This paper is from the Palette O' Prints pad that is available as a sneak peak this month. I simply drew lines on the striped celery paper with my two way glue pen and then covered in Dazzling Diamonds glitter. Bingo, instant glittery paper. I was inspired to try this after seeing the awesome samples using the DCWV glitter stack that have been popular on splitcoast lately. I also glittered the polka dot paper used on the round tab punch out.

I've been tagged!

Wow, I can't believe I've been tagged. Thanks Kim! I met Kim a few weeks back at the stamping cape cod weekend. We had so much fun chatting and stamping. She turned me on to EZ Mount foam for my bes and made some super cute thank you cards for the 3-day walk she'll be participating in this fall. I'm so glad to be able to call her a friend!

Card Metaphor - Alli has an incredible blog. She's done amazing things with the Butterfly Kisses Paper Trey set and he most recent post on chipboard is too cool! You'll definitely want to check her out!

The Polka Dot Spot - Mandy is one of my favorite stampers from splitcoast, so when I discovered the she had a blog, I subscribed immediately! Her designs are so pure & clean -- I have definitely CASEd my fair share!

My Time - Lauren is such a prolific stamper! I am always amazed at how many quality cards she can turn out! I love reading about all of her design team work and her family.

Paper Pleasing Ideas - I just found Julie's blog today and I just love it. She has a great eye for layout design and choosing colors. I look forward to seeing what she comes up with next!

Stamp Owl - Frances' blog was also a new find for me today. I fell in love with her rubber romance cards in the gallery and then clicked on the link to her blog. Wowwee!! She has some awesome Mickey cards & Stampin' Up! cards as well.

I guess that makes 5! That was super hard! I thought I would also post a link to my favorite non-stamping blog. The Yarn Harlot is the funniest knit blogger out there. Even my husband reads her posts sometimes. Her recent While You Were Out style home renovation adventures were especially funny!

MS Walk revisited

The MS Walk was this Sunday and it was a wonderful day. The sun was shining, but it wasn't too hot and there was a nice breeze off the water in Providence. While the six and a half miles is a didn't seem too bad that day, my legs are still super sore! It's the good kind of sore though.

So far I have raised $695, which is totally awesome, and my team has raised $3,521! My goal is $750 and I still have a few weeks to collect donations. I found out at the walk that we can still collect donations until May 25. Here's the link to my page if you'd like to help me out!

As I mentioned in a previous post, I was planning to use Barbella from Stamping Bella for all my thank you notes. However, last night I decided that it was a little bit too much work what with all the masking for all 25 that I needed to make. So I decided to only send out the Barbella cards to my stamping friends. Coworkers are going to get these instead.


For these cards, I pulled out some retired embossed small note cards from Stampin' Up! I bought these a couple years ago right before they retired and had just the right amount to make 18 thank yous! The MS is stamped with the Headline Alphabet in Pallette Noir Black ink. Then walk was stamped with my Karen Foster snap stamps in Real Red Classic ink. This is the first time I've used the snap stamps and they are super cool! I got mine at Joann's, but Ellen sells them in her store as well. I finished the outside off with some red polka dot organdy ribbon from May Arts. I just bought a whole spool from Cindy. I think it's so cool to have it on the spool!

On this inside, I simply stamped Thank for your support from A Muse Art Stamps and left the rest of the inside blank so I can write my thank you note. Pretty simple and maybe a little more professional to give to my coworkers that supported me.

Vintage Baby Card

I signed up for a sketch challenge last week on the Sensational Swappers group. The challenge was simply to make a card using splitcoast sketch challenge 115. The funny part was that until I started browsing the gallery, I totally forgot that I already had made a card using sc115 (and for this swap group to boot!)

The interesting part of this sketch for me is the cut-out flower hanging over the edge of the center panel. Since I used the doodle flower last time, I wanted to do something more out of the box this time. I sat down with my Stampin' Up! Idea Book & Catalog to find a replacement. Originally I intended to use a butterfly, but when I saw the stork from Buggies & Booties I knew that I had found my set!

Since there would be a lot of intricate cutting on the stork & rattle, I decided to stamp them on watercolor paper. It is much thicker than regular card stock. Since I was using watercolor paper, I decided to color the stork & rattle with my watercolor wonder crayons.

I went a little background crazy on this card. The center panel was stamped with the Print Pattern background stamp on watercolor paper in pale plum ink and then over-stamped with the sentiment.

This piece was layered on perfect plum card stock. The middle strip was stamped with the Linen background stamped and then I faux stitched with a perfect plum marker to tie the two shades of plum together.

This is all layered on a piece of sage shadow that was stamped with the Fine Lace background stamp.

I thought it still needed a little something, so I added some ivory organdy ribbon in the middle. I was quite pleased with the end result! I don't normally do vintage images, but this set really grabbed me!

Rain on your wedding day...

They say it's good luck to have rain on your wedding day. I think "they" are just trying to make you feel better. Today, we went to our friend Chris' wedding and let's just say that he and his bride, Meghan, were blessed with tons and tons of luck. Some guests missed the ceremony due to flooded roads. We almost had problems getting home. It's weird when roads you normally drive on suddenly turn into rivers.

All that is to say that today we went to a wedding. While I was in the shower this morning, I realized that I forgot to make a card. So, I pulled out an elegant Fabriano Medioevalis card and stamped this beautiful wedding dress stamp from PSX Stamps. This was one of the first stamps I ever purchased. Isn't it so elegant? I then watercolored with my watercolor wonder crayons and an aquapainter. It's hard to see in the picture, but I colored the dress white and the flowers on the dress vanilla. I also outlined the dress with bordering blue to make the white dress pop more. This is a trick I learned from Julie Ebersole. Finally, I added a little glitz with my Sakura Stardust pen. It still wasn't quite finished, so I added organdy ribbon and silver cord from Stampin' Up!

It Came!

As you may recall, I won Sarah's super awesome contest a couple weeks ago. Well tonight I came home to a super heavy box full of fun!

MS Walk

Next weekend I will be participating in the Rhode Island chapter's MS Walk. My step-sister was diagnosed with MS in her late 20s. My whole family will be walking on her team to support her, raise awareness for MS and help raise money for a cure!

For my card, I very carefully inked barbella from stamping bella with a palette noir black ink spot. I didn't want the barbells on my card, so for the parts that were too hard to ink with the spot, I used my black Stampin' Write Journaling marker from Stampin' Up! This marker is waterproof, so I didn't have to worry about it bleeding when I started to watercolor.

Barbella is water colored with an aquapainter and the Stampin' Up! watercolor wonder crayons. Then I went back with my Glaze Gelly Roll pens to add some shine and glitter. I am loving these! I finished the card with the perfect sentiment from A Muse and some red May Arts Cindy ribbon.

The card itself is a Fabriano Medioevalis folded card. I just bought a package of 100 from Dick Blick, so I am ready to make lots of thank you cards!

My First Blogger RAK

As I was sifting through the mail that came last night (mostly bills!), I was happily surprised to find my first blogger's RAK. I joined the SCS Blogger's RAK club a couple of weeks ago, so I wasn't expecting to get anything so quickly!

I am loving the designer paper Jeanine used! It has so much texture. She also added some faux stitching around the flower panel.

I also loved the way Jeanine added crystal effect droplets on the petals of the daisy to make it look like dew first thing in the morning. Daisies are my favorite flower, so this card is very special to me!

Let them eat cake!

As I was browsing the Eclectic Paperie store the other day, I came across this too cute stamp from Stampendous called Tiers of Treats. I just had to have it! I was thinking of getting some EZ Mount for my bellas anyway, so it wasn't hard to push the submit order button. :)

Well, today my order came in so I had to break in my new stamp. I thought this A Muse sentiment was the perfect compliment to the main image.

The treats were stamped in Palette Noir Black ink on a pale pink Arturo note card. Think Fabriano Medioevalis but in color! From the little experimentation I've done, I think I prefer the Fabriano notecards over the Arturo. While that is a little like saying I prefer Renoir over Monet, I think the paper is a little thicker and can handle the water a bit better. I also ordered some white Arturo cards, so maybe I'll do a side by side comparison on the blog tomorrow.

I ordered the variety pack of Arturo cards from Ellen Hutson's store but they are also available from Dick Blick in bulk. Then I colored in the image with my watercolor wonder crayons and my trusty aquapainter. Once it was dry, I added some shine and glitter with my Glaze Gelly Roll pens. I've had these for a while, but rediscovered them on the cape cod retreat. I don't think I'll be forgetting about that again any time soon. :)

To add that finishing touch, I tied a knot with some black May Arts ribbon from Cindy Lyles' ebay store.

Earthy Flowers

At my cape cod stamping weekend, I stamped a bunch of bellas on some Fabriano Medioevalis reply note cards. I got inky fingerprints on some of them, so I cut them down to layer onto a regular card. I water colored flowahbella with my watercolor wonder crayons and an aqua painter. Then when she dried, I added some glitter highlights with Maria's Stardust Gelly Roll pen which you can get from Cindy Lyles' eBay store. I also colored in her mouth with my white glaze pen gelly roll pen.

I CASEd the layout of this card from Candy Williams. I've been saving this card of Candy's for a while just waiting for the perfect image to come along. I thought flowahbella fit the bill nicely.

This card also helps fulfill a challenge issued after our cape cod weekend because I used something that I purchased that weekend -- the EK Success photo corner punch. I know, I know. I could have just made the photo corner with my square punches or with my tag punch. But you know what? This was so much easier! And I actually have a photo corner on the card. Even though I've known how to make photo corners with my square punches since convention last July, I haven't actually done it yet. So if the corner punch makes it more convenient, then let me be. I'm thrilled with the result. ;)
